Respect awards for Club Doncaster Titans and Barton Inclusive Hull

SYACL referees choose winners from eleven clubs with hundred per cent records

At the beginning of the 2022/3 season, the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League began participating in the Respect and Reward initiative, a scheme started by the National FA and operated by Sheffield and Hallam FA. The scheme’s aim is to recognise and reward teams who consistently show high levels of respect towards match officials and support making football a positive environment for all, writes Margaret Gregory.

League Chair Mike Stylianou told www.southyorkshireabilitycountsleague.com “The junior league season has now been completed and the committee would like to thank and applaud all the players & club officials in contributing to another enjoyable & successful season.”

“Respect scores awarded by the referees at all the matches since the start of the year have been collated and it is very pleasing that 11 of the 20 teams received 100% scores for all their matches.

Our referees were asked to choose a stand out team from each age group and we are pleased to announce that Club Doncaster Titans are the overall winners of the U12 section and Barton -Hull from the U16 section.

Both clubs will be awarded tickets to attend the forthcoming England v Iceland U19 Euro Championship Elite Round at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on the 25th of March.

We have collected the scores from our referees and also ensured that teams with 100% scores are entered into the County FA’s monthly Respect Reward Initiative.”

Jo Newby, one of the coaching staff at Barton’s Under-16 team was delighted with the award.

“Wonderful news, we are all thrilled to win. Well done to Titans and thank you to everyone for making us feel welcome in our debut season. From Jo, Chris, Heather and all the U16 team.

Speaking on behalf of the Under-12’s winners, Club Doncaster Titans Chair and Secretary and League Welfare Officer Andrew Robson told www.southyorkshireabilitycountsleague.com  “At Club Doncaster Titans we believe that football, particularly for the U12’s should be fun first and foremost. That being said we have also worked really hard to promote RESPECT throughout our club. To hear that our U12’s have won the respect award from SYACL this year is really amazing. What better acknowledgement for all the hard work our Players, Parents and Coaches have put in, particularly over this last season. I know there have been difficult times for the U12’s, but they all remained positive and enjoyed playing their games regardless of results. Well done to each of them!!! I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Barton on their U16’s winning the RESPECT award, well done guys!”

Titans Under 12’s Head Coach Steph Hall was delighted. “”Thank you to the league for CDT U12’s winning the respect award. Our team is built around RESPECT and we are very proud that our players continuously show respect to themselves, each other, opponents, all coaches and officials. Thanks again on behalf of Club Doncaster Titans.” Mike added “The Junior Divisional round-robin cup competition will be held at Doncaster Goals Centre on the 2nd of April. All players attending on the day will receive a participation league medal and trophies will be awarded to the group winners.”

Respect scoring after Dec 2022 matchdays

Well done to all the junior teams who received 100% respect scores from the referees after all their matches so far this season. Those teams were entered into a draw to determine the December mid-season winners from both the U12 & U16 sections and that was made last night by our website editor Margaret, at the Swallownest FC match.

Congratulations to Chesterfield FC from the U12’s and Bradford City Amber from the U16’s as they were drawn out by Margaret. Each player from those teams will receive a Mitre England football as a reward and recognition from the league for their efforts at the next set of fixtures on the 22nd of January 2023. Photos of the draw to follow.

Of the 20 teams involved in the junior league it is extremely pleasing that 14 of those received 100% respect scores and the other 6 had averages over 90%. The scores for each team includes the behaviour of not only the players but also the team’s officials and their spectators. The overall averages have been terrific and so every club should be proud of their contributions in maintaining the high standards of respect in our league.

Respect scores will be collected from the referees at all the remaining fixtures and rewards will be made again at the end of the league season, where hopefully we have more than 14 teams being entered into the draw.

The league committee would like to wish you all a healthy and happy new year!

Best Wishes

Mike & SYACL committee.

2022 SOUTH YORKSHIRE ABILITY COUNTS RESPECT CODE WINNERS TO BE DRAWN THIS FRIDAY !

This season, the Junior Leagues of the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League have been participating in the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Respect and Reward Scheme.

However, to improve the opportunities for our Junior teams to appreciate the importance of respect and sportsmanship, the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League Committee took the decision to run a parallel rewards scheme for our younger participants, noting that the Darren Warner Fair play Award has been awarded to our 7-a-side and 5-a -side adult teams for a couple of years now.

So, the 2022/2023 Matchdays have been scored. Of 20 participating sides, 14 have achieved a 100 per cent score, and so will be included in a draw to take place this Friday, 30th December  to determine which clubs will receive the prizes of an England match football (pictured). There will be winners in both the Under-16’s and Under 12’s categories, and both will receive a ball.

League Chairman Mike Stylianou commented “It’s very pleasing that the vast majority of teams have achieved 100% scores – but the teams who haven’t will have the opportunity to catch up during the second half of the season when we will be making a further award. None of the discipline issues we had were serious and were managed well on the days by our referees and coaches.

The draw will be made by our SYACL Website editor Margaret Gregory. Margaret is also the Secretary at Swallownest FC, so it’s appropriate that the draw will be made at the NCEL fixture between Swallownest and Selby Town this Friday evening at Rotherham Road.

We’ll declare the results on our website and Twitter feeds, and the presentations to the winning teams will be made at our next Juniors Matchday at Goals Centre Doncaster on 23rd January 2023.

Premiership Under 16 sides participating in the first draw will be Chesterfield Community Trust FC, Barton Inclusive (Hull) Bradford City Disability FC Amber and Sheffield FC Disability Blue, along with Hillsborough Hornets (Black), Club Doncaster Titans (White) , and Sheffield FC Disability (Black) from the Championship.

In the Under-12’s category, Chesterfield FC Community Trust FC, Club Doncaster Titans Blue, Sheffield FC Disability Red, Bradford City Disability Diamonds and Hillsborough Hornets (Orange)  will represent the Premiership, with Hillsborough Hornets (White) and Club Doncaster Titans (Red) entering from the Championship.

Good luck to all, and look out for the draw at www.southyorkshireabilitycountsleague.com
