Doncaster club joins South Yorkshire Ability Counts League Junior Division

It’s the usual really warm welcome from the SYorks ACL to Edenthorpe Juniors Ability Counts, who have made a really good start to life in the Under-12’s Championship. They sit in second place and have been a great addition to the Junior ranks.
www.southyorkshireabilitycounts.com website editor Margaret Gregory caught up with their Vice Chairman, Mark Greenwood to get the low-down on the new guys.
“ Edenthorpe has been going as a junior football club since 1988 – even before that for a number of years under different names,” Mark told Margaret. “ Up to two years ago we were a club that focused on mixed team football, but our Committee decided that this needed to change – and that a club like ours should fully represent our community. ”
“Our journey started with the female pathway two years ago and has resulted in 6 junior teams and one adult team.” Mark continued, “towards the end of 2022 the club started its next phase, which was looking at providing recreational football for children with ASD. We did this by supporting a local SEN (Special Educational Needs) school, providing children with quality coaching and equipment that they previously hadn’t had. This has been going for just over 7 months now. “
“ This led to an external recreational session and the development of a team, ” Mark explained. “ We are still looking to develop further teams and had hoped to have an U16’s team for the start of the season -but this didn’t quite materialise. ”
Looking ahead, Mark told @SYorksACL, “We continue to look at how we develop the pathway; we’d like to increase the number of teams we have – adult teams as well as Juniors. ”
Mark is clearly pleased to have his team in the competition. “ We are very grateful to all the support that SYACL have provided in our very first league season as a new club,” he told Margaret.
“ We look forward to our U12’s team having a fantastic experience! ”
We’d like to thank Mark for his time and look forward to seeing them in action at Goals Doncaster in December!
